Sol Caribe can arrange a wide variety of tours in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere for guests, whatever their interests – bird watching, wildlife, snorkeling, fly fishing in Ascension Bay, Mayan ruins. One-day tours are run by Punta Allen non-profit organizations and highly-qualified guides, and offer a glimpse into the intricate and dramatic interplay of nature and history in a unique ecological environment.

Available Tours

  • Snorkeling trips out to the Meso-American Reef, the largest coral reef eco-system in the Western Hemisphere.
  • Boat trips around the lagoon to mangroves and islands full of nesting birds (pelicans, ibis, heron, egrets and roseate spoonbills are commonly sighted, as is the occasional crocodile).
  • World-class saltwater fly fishing in the Ascension Bay and Boca Paila lagoon: bonefish, snook, tarpon and permit.
  • Deep-sea fishing in front of Punta Allen for marlin, sailfish, mahi-mahi, grouper and barracuda

Sol Caribe supports the initiatives of the Meso-American Reef Fund (MAR Fund), a conservation trust project of the World Wildlife Federation which promotes and encourages sustainable tourism within the Meso-American Barrier Reef System in the Sian Ka'an Biospheres

Visit the lagoon south of Punta Allen, the bird island and the beautiful coral reef by boat, the guide will tell you everything about the birds in the Sian Ka'an Reserve, he will try to find turtles, crocodiles, starfish and dolphins, he will show you the different types of mangroves. Journey back in time on the ancient Sian Ka'an waterway. This not-to-be-missed boat tour follows the Sian Ka'an canal, built by the native Mayans more than 1,000 years ago. During the course of the tour, you’ll discover the exquisite turquoise Chunyaxche lagoon, as well as the ancient Xlahpak temple – an incredible Mayan ruin known locally as “The Watch of the Lake. When getting to Muyil you will hike inside the jungle to reach the impressive ruin of Muyil where you can climb the 17 m high “El Castillo” and enjoy the breathtaking views. Learn about trees, plants and the history of this ancient ruin.

Not simply for serious birdwatchers and fishermen, the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve has much to offer anyone with an appreciation for, and a love of observing wildlife in unspoiled nature. More than 500 species of fish have been recorded along the reef along the Caribbean coast. It is not uncommon to see dolphins while snorkeling along the reef and sea turtles lolling on the beaches. Sian Ka'an is home to many exotic creatures, including 103 known mammal species (such as porcupines, jaguars, tapirs, manatees, ocelots, crocodiles) and 336 known bird species (pelicans, falcons, vultures, cormorants, storks, and hundreds of exotic birds), amphibians and reptiles.
